SWEDISH 1930S/1940S BLACK TWO PIECE DINNER SUIT BY PINGVIN. SIZE CA EU 48-50 (US/UK 38-40)

DESCRIPTION

This dinner suit is of Swedish origin and was most likely tailored sometime during the 1930s or 1940s. It is made from a black wool cloth with a smooth finish.

The dinner jacket is double-breasted with two rows of buttons, one of which is functional. It features horizontal piped front pockets and a breast pocket. The lapels are wide and peaked, faced in black silk, and the left lapel has a buttonhole. The sleeves are finished with three buttons. The back is straight and closed, with no vents. Internally, the jacket is fully lined and has two inside pockets, one on each side.

The trousers feature double forward pleats, silk side braiding, brace buttons on the outside of the waistband, and a button fly. The front pockets are vertical and aligned with the side braid. At the back, there is one piped pocket on each side.

Overall condition is excellent. The silk facing on the lapels is also in very good condition, an area where wear is often evident on dinner jackets of this age. There is really only one point to note: the trousers have been let out at the waist at some point. This alteration has been executed rather poorly, and we would recommend that it be restored. SIZE

The dinner jacket corresponds to a modern EU 48–50 (UK/US 38–40). In their current state, the trousers measure slightly larger at the waist, between EU 50 and EU 52 (UK/US 40–42). This is due to the waist having been let out, as mentioned above. If this alteration were to be reversed, the trousers would likely correspond well with the jacket in size.
