DESCRIPTION
This dinner suit bears no labels, but appears in every respect to be of Swedish origin and bespoke, most likely made sometime during the 1940s. It is tailored from a black wool cloth with a smooth finish.
The dinner jacket is single-breasted and fastens with a link button. It features horizontal piped front pockets and a breast pocket. The lapels are wide, peaked, and faced in silk. The sleeves are finished with four non-functional buttons. The back is straight and closed, with no vents. Internally, the jacket is fully lined and has one inside pocket on each side.
The trousers feature double forward pleats, silk side braiding, and brace buttons on the outside of the waistband. They fasten with a button fly. The front pockets are vertical and run along the side braid. The trousers are fitted with side adjusters, allowing for easy adjustment at the waist. At the back, there is one piped pocket on each side, as well as a fishtail back, meaning the waistband is open at the centre back.
Overall, the condition is very good. The only point to note is some light discolouration to the lining. This is, of course, not visible when the dinner suit is worn, and the overall impression remains excellent. The condition of the silk lapels is also very good, near perfect. This is an area where older dinner jackets often show visible wear, but not in this case. Please study the photographs carefully to form your own assessment of the condition.
SIZE
In terms of size, the dinner jacket measures almost exactly between a modern EU 54 (UK/US 44) and EU 56 (UK/US 46) based on the chest measurement. The trousers are larger when measured at the waist, corresponding to approximately EU 60 (UK/US 50), but it should be noted that this measurement is taken with the side adjusters fully open. When the adjusters are drawn in, the two pieces correspond well in size, although the trousers may still be slightly larger.
This discrepancy is simply due to the suit being bespoke. In summary, this dinner suit will best suit someone around EU 54–56 (UK/US 44–46), though some adjustment at the waist may be required. Please scroll down for exact measurements and seam allowances.
