DESCRIPTION
This exceptionally fine overcoat bears no labels or maker's marks, making it impossible to establish its exact origin. A closer examination, however, quickly reveals that it is bespoke tailored. Having studied it in detail, our overall assessment is that it was most likely made sometime during the 1920s, probably in Sweden. There is also a possibility that it was made a decade or so later, but in a deliberately old-fashioned style at the customer's request. That, of course, can only be a matter of speculation.
The coat is made from a heavy wool cloth with a distinctly blue tone. The fabric has a very subtle twill weave that is only visible upon close inspection.
The coat is double-breasted with three rows of buttons. It features straight flapped hip pockets and a buttonhole in each lapel. The cuffs are each finished with a large button. At the back, it has a half-belt, giving the coat a well-defined waist, together with a deep centre vent.
The interior is fully lined and beautifully finished, with a neatly jetted inside pocket on each side. One detail worth noting is that the sleeves have been lengthened at some point in the coat's history. All of the internal materials - including the sleeve lining, body lining, and pocket linings—are period-correct and typical of garments made during the first decades of the 20th century.
Overall, the condition is very good. One has to examine the coat quite carefully to find any flaws. The points worth mentioning are a small area of damage to the cloth on the collar and another small area of damage on the inside. Neither detracts from the overall impression. Taken as a whole, this is a remarkably fine overcoat and a truly unique piece. Please examine the photographs carefully and form your own assessment of the condition.
