This is the coat for anyone wanting to stay truly warm! Of Swedish origin, it was sold at Paul U. Bergströms department store (abbreviated as PUB) in Stockholm. While it unfortunately carries no date label, the tags and overall design suggest that it was most likely produced in the 1910s or possibly the 1920s. Inside the collar, traces of the original label remain — although the text is no longer legible, it features the period-typical gold lettering on a black background.
This style of overcoat with a fur collar was common at the time. Black Persian lamb was a popular choice, as is the case here.
The coat is double-breasted and fastens with three rows of hooks and eyes, plus an additional fastening at the neck. Hook-and-eye closures were occasionally seen on men’s outerwear in the early 20th century — in later decades, they became more associated with women's coats. It has horizontal front pockets with flaps. The back is straight with a single vent. There is a button to close the vent. The interior is fully lined with light brown fur, most likely sheepskin. There is one inside pocket on each side: a standard horizontal pocket on the left, which contains the original PUB label, and a larger vertical pocket on the right.
The overall condition of the coat is excellent, especially considering its age and construction. Fur-lined coats that are over a century old often show typical signs of wear — such as dry or cracked pelts — but that is not the case here. There are no major damages, only some minor signs of age that become visible upon close inspection. There is some wear in certain areas, including on a few of the hook-and-eye fastenings and at a few spots in the black Persian lamb fur. Please refer to the photos to form your own assessment of the condition.
A rare opportunity to acquire a period-authentic Swedish fur-lined overcoat in remarkably well-preserved condition.
