DESCRIPTION
This three-piece suit is of Swedish origin and is over 100 years old, having been made sometime during the first two decades of the 20th century by Alfred Lundqvist, a tailoring establishment in Degerfors, a locality in the province of Värmland. It is crafted from a densely woven black wool cloth, a typical suiting fabric of the period.
The jacket is single-breasted and fastens with two buttons. All buttons are covered and elegantly decorated. It features horizontal front pockets with flaps and a breast pocket, and there is a buttonhole on the left lapel. The cuffs are finished with three covered buttons. The back is straight with a single vent. Internally, it is fully lined and has two inside pockets: a standard horizontal pocket on the right-hand side and a vertical pocket on the left, neatly concealed with an opening along the lining seam.
The waistcoat is single-breasted and fastens with five buttons, also covered. It has four front pockets - two at chest height and two lower down. At the back, there is a strap for size adjustment. The lining features a rather eye-catching patterned fabric, which is typical for waistcoats of this era. The waistcoat is very well constructed internally and includes an inside pocket with flap and button fastening on the left-hand side.
The trousers are period-correct, with a flat front, vertical front pockets, and buttons for braces on the outside of the waistband. They have a button fly and an additional extension tab to help keep the trousers properly positioned. At the back, they feature a so-called “fish tail” with a buckle for size adjustment.
The condition is outstanding, close to as-new. The only sign of wear is minimal discolouration in the lining around the armholes. Overall, the condition is as close to perfect as one could expect - particularly remarkable considering the suit is over a century old. From time to time, we offer garments we describe as “museum quality”; this is one such example. Please study the photographs and form your own opinion of the condition.
SIZE
In terms of size, it corresponds to a modern EU 46 (UK/US 36). The trousers are slightly larger in the waist; however, this measurement is taken with the rear strap fully let out. When adjusted, the waist size will correspond well with the other pieces. Please scroll down for exact measurements and seam allowances.
