SWEDISH 1940S MOTTLED GREY TWEED PLUS FOURS BY ERLA. SIZE CA EU 46 (US/UK 36)

DESCRIPTION

These plus fours are of Swedish origin, produced by Erla sometime during the 1940s. They are made from a substantial tweed fabric in a variety of colours; on close inspection, blue, green, brown and white can all be seen. To the eye, however, they appear grey overall.

They are typical of the period in every detail. They have double front pleats, slightly slanted front pockets, and a so-called belt tunnel in the waistband. This means that when worn with a belt, the belt is partly concealed within a channel running along the waistband. This was very common on trousers of this period. The leg openings are fitted with buckles to ensure that they sit securely around the calves. They have a button fly, and there are buttons on the inside of the waistband for braces. On the right-hand side there is a small coin pocket with a zip fastening. At the back, there is a pocket on each side, both with button fastenings.

The condition is excellent, practically as new, with one exception: there is a small repair at the back, close to the centre seam. This does not affect the overall appearance, of course, but it can be detected on close inspection. Otherwise, the condition is as stated, excellent. There is no discolouration to the lining, suggesting that they have seen very little use. Please study the photographs and form your own impression of the condition.

They correspond to a modern EU 46 (US/UK 36). There are a few centimetres of seam allowance that can be let out at the waist; if let out to the maximum, the waist would correspond to a size between EU 46 (US/UK 36) and EU 48 (US/UK 38). Please scroll down for exact measurements.
