SWEDISH 1950S GREY TWO PIECE DEADSTOCK SUIT BY SIR. SIZE CA EU 48 (US/UK 38)

DESCRIPTION

This suit is of Swedish origin and was sold new at Erikssons, a menswear and ladieswear shop in Smålandsstenar, a small town in southern Sweden. The suit is deadstock, meaning that it has never been worn. It still has its original label attached to the cuff. It is made from a grey cloth typical of the period. The cloth has a slightly heathered appearance.

The jacket is single-breasted and fastens with three buttons. It has horizontal front pockets with flaps, as well as a breast pocket. There is a buttonhole in the left lapel. There are three buttons at each cuff. The back is straight and closed, with no vent. Inside, the jacket is fully lined and has three inner pockets – one larger pocket on each side, plus a smaller one on the left.

The trousers have double front pleats and slightly slanted front pockets. They have belt loops and buttons for braces on the inside of the waistband. The bottoms of the legs have turn-ups. At the back, there is one pocket on each side, both with substantial pocket flaps and button fastenings.

As mentioned above, the suit is completely unworn. Unfortunately, however, it has sustained a couple of areas of damage during its years in storage. One is on the back of the jacket and the other is on the back of one trouser leg. These areas of damage are small and have no significant effect on the overall impression. They should nevertheless be pointed out, particularly given that the suit is deadstock, which often implies a garment in perfect condition. The label states the size as “D96”. In terms of modern sizing, this corresponds approximately to an EU 48 (US/UK 38). The “D” indicates a cut intended for a somewhat squarer body type. Please scroll down for the exact measurements and seam allowances.
