SWEDISH 1940S/1950S GREY TWO PIECE SUIT WITH RED CHECK, BY WIDENGRENS. SIZE CA EU 48-50 (US/UK 38-40)

DESCRIPTION

This suit is of Swedish origin and was made sometime during the latter half of the 1940s or possibly in the early 1950s. It is by Clubman, one of Widengren’s brands. Widengren was a Swedish clothing manufacturer. It is made from a rather unusual cloth that we have not encountered before. The overall colour is best described as dark grey. The cloth does, however, have a subtle checked pattern incorporating several other colours, the most noticeable being the red tones.

The jacket is single-breasted and fastens with two buttons. It has relatively broad lapels and a low fastening, which is typical of this particular period. It has horizontal front pockets with flaps, as well as a breast pocket. There is a buttonhole in the left lapel. There are no fewer than four buttons at each cuff. The back is closed, with no vent. Inside, the jacket is fully lined and has one inner pocket on each side.

The trousers have double front pleats, slightly slanted front pockets and a zip fly. They have belt loops, and there are buttons for braces on the inside of the waistband. At the back, there is one pocket on each side, both with button fastenings.

The overall condition is very good. There are no defects that are visible when the suit is worn; the only thing to note is some light discolouration around the lining in the jacket’s underarm areas. Please study the photographs and form your own opinion of the condition.
