SWEDISH 1940S GREY STRIPED TWO PIECE SUIT BY STADION. SIZE CA EU 52-54 LONG (US/UK42-44 LONG)

DESCRIPTION

This suit is of Swedish origin and was most likely produced sometime during the latter half of the 1940s. It is by Stadion. It is made from a fine grey pinstriped cloth with a rather striking red stripe running at 2.5 cm intervals.

The jacket has a cut typical of the period, with broad lapels and a relatively low fastening. It is single-breasted and fastens with two buttons. It has horizontal front pockets with welted openings, as well as a breast pocket. There is a buttonhole in the left lapel. The back is straight and has a single vent at the bottom. Inside, the jacket is fully lined and has three inner pockets: one large pocket on each side, plus a slightly smaller one on the left.

The trousers have double front pleats, slightly slanted front pockets and belt loops. They have a zip fly and buttons for braces on the inside of the waistband. At the back, there is one pocket on each side, both with flaps and button fastenings.

The overall condition of this suit is good, and this is also the main impression one gets. On closer inspection, however, a number of minor imperfections become apparent. There is, for example, a small discolouration on the right lapel. Similar small discolourations can be found in several other places. It is possible that these might come out with further cleaning, but there is no way of knowing for certain. The trouser lining also has some discolouration, which of course is not visible when the suit is worn.

There are no actual damages to the cloth or anything of that nature; the imperfections are in the form of the aforementioned discolourations. One might argue that the rarity of the suit (we have never seen this cloth before) warrants a certain degree of leniency towards minor imperfections such as these discolourations, but of course that is for the buyer to decide. Please study the photographs and form your own opinion of the condition. All discolourations have been documented.

SIZE

There is a label in one of the inner pockets suggesting that this suit was made to measure for a specific person. The measurements also suggest that this may be the case. In terms of modern sizing, it corresponds approximately to an EU 52–54 LONG (US/UK 42–44 LONG).
