DESCRIPTION
This fine suit has no labels, so it is not possible to determine the exact maker or date. However, by examining it closely, certain conclusions can still be drawn. It was in all likelihood made in Sweden sometime in the late 1950s or possibly the early 1960s. The absence of labels in the lining is probably explained by the fact that it was almost certainly bespoke, made for a specific individual. Both the fit and certain tailoring details support this, including functioning buttonholes at the cuffs—something that was virtually unheard of on Swedish ready-to-wear suits at the time. It is made from a rather unusual fabric: a beige-grey cloth with a beautifully subtle and well-balanced check pattern.
The jacket is single-breasted and fastens with three buttons. It features horizontal welt pockets at the front and a breast pocket. There is a buttonhole in the left lapel. As previously mentioned, the cuffs have functioning buttonholes. The back is straight with double vents. Internally, the jacket is fully lined and has three inner pockets—one large on each side and a smaller one just above the left.
The trousers feature single pleats and slanted front pockets. They have belt loops and a zip fly; however, they have been altered and previously had a button fly, which is typical of bespoke trousers. Just below the waistband on the right-hand side, there is a small pocket, and on the inside of the waistband there are buttons for braces. On the reverse, there are two pockets, one on each side, both with flaps and button fastening.
As for the condition, the overall impression is good, although there are a number of minor imperfections visible upon closer inspection. These do not concern damage to the fabric itself, but rather discolouration in various areas. The most noticeable is under the arms, though it appears elsewhere as well. None of this significantly affects the overall impression. Please study the images and form your own opinion regarding the condition.
SIZE
The sizing is another indication that this is not a ready-to-wear suit. In chest size, it corresponds to an EU 48 (UK 38), but it is also generously cut in length. For this reason, we have listed it as an EU 48 LONG (UK 38 LONG). The wearer should ideally be over 185 cm (6'1) tall for the suit to fit well.
