SWEDISH 1940S GREY PINSTRIPE TWO PIECE SUIT BY RYTTERKVIST. SIZE CA EU 48-50 (US/UK 38-40)

DESCRIPTION

This suit is of Swedish origin and was originally sold new by Rytterqvist, a retailer that operated several gentlemen’s outfitters in Stockholm, most likely in the mid-1940s. The suit is made from a dark grey pinstripe fabric.

The jacket is double-breasted with only one row of buttons, which is somewhat unusual but did occur during this period. It features horizontal welt front pockets and a breast pocket. There is a buttonhole on each lapel. The back is straight and closed, meaning it has no vent. Internally, it is fully lined and has two inner pockets, one on each side.

The trousers are period-typical, with double pleats, slightly slanted front pockets, and a button fly. They have belt loops and a small coin pocket just below the waistband on the right-hand side. Inside the waistband, there are buttons for braces. The trouser hems are turned up. At the back, there is one pocket on each side, both with flaps and button fastenings.

In terms of condition, the overall impression is very good. Upon closer inspection, some minor defects can be noted, but these consist only of internal discolouration—nothing visible when the suit is worn—found in the sleeve lining, the collar, and the trousers. In terms of size, the jacket corresponds to an EU 50 (UK 40) based on the chest measurement. The trousers are slightly smaller when considering the waist, corresponding to an EU 48 (UK 38), and there is no additional material available to let out.
