SWEDISH 1950S MID-GREY TWO PIECE SINGLE BREASTED SUIT BY ESSGE. SIZE CA EU 48 (US/UK38)

DESCRIPTION

This suit is of Swedish origin, from the Essge brand, and was produced sometime during the 1950s. It was originally sold at a shop called Elkan, located in Sala, a small town outside Stockholm. The fabric is British, from J&C Croysdale — a typical suiting cloth of the period, in a mid-grey tone with a subtle twill structure.

The jacket is single-breasted and fastens with three buttons. It features horizontal jetted pockets and a breast pocket. The left lapel has a buttonhole. The cuffs are finished with a single button. The back is straight and closed, with no vent. Internally, it is fully lined and has three inner pockets — one large pocket on each side, plus a smaller additional pocket above the left one.

The trousers feature double pleats, slanted front pockets, and a zip fly. Inside the waistband, there are buttons for braces. They also have belt loops. At the back, there is one pocket on each side, both with button fastening.

In terms of condition, the exterior presents excellently, with nothing of note. Upon closer inspection of the interior, there are some minor discolourations in the lining. There is also a small area of damage to the right sleeve lining. None of this is visible when the suit is worn. Please study the images carefully and form your own opinion of the condition.

SIZE

The jacket is slightly larger than the trousers when comparing chest and waist measurements. The chest corresponds to a modern EU 48–50 (US/UK 38–40), while the trouser waist corresponds to a modern EU 46–48 (US/UK 36–38).

There are, however, a few extra centimetres of material available in the waist, allowing the trousers to be let out if desired. This means they can be adjusted to match the jacket size more precisely.
