DESCRIPTION
This suit is of Swedish origin. It is by the brand Sir and was produced sometime in the late 1940s or possibly the early 1950s. It was originally sold at the menswear shop Fristedts in the small town of Sala, just over 100 km from Stockholm. The Fristedts shop in fact remained in business until quite recently. The suit is made from a rather striking blue fabric featuring a kind of herringbone pattern. When the cloth is examined closely, it becomes clear that it consists of equal parts blue and black, although the overall impression to the eye is blue. Fabrics of this relatively bold character were common around this time, especially in suits intended for younger men.
The jacket is single-breasted and fastens with two buttons, giving it a relatively low fastening point. It has horizontal front pockets with flaps and a breast pocket. There is a buttonhole on the left lapel. The back is straight and closed, meaning it has no vent. The cuffs feature four buttons. Inside, the jacket is fully lined and has two inner pockets, one on each side.
The trousers have slightly slanted front pockets and a crease down the leg. They have belt loops and a zip fly. The trouser hems are finished with turn-ups. At the back there is a substantial pocket on the left side with both a flap and a button closure.
The overall condition is good, although closer inspection reveals a few minor flaws. The most noticeable is a small damage to the fabric on one of the trouser legs. Otherwise, the issues mainly consist of discolouration in the lining — in other words, nothing that is visible when the suit is worn. Please study the photographs carefully and form your own opinion regarding the condition.
SIZE
In terms of size, the suit corresponds to an EU 48 (US/UK 38). The waist of the trousers is somewhat smaller, closer to an EU 46 (US/UK 36), which may indicate that they have been taken in at some point. However, it is no problem to let the trousers out so that the waist corresponds to an EU 48 (US/UK 38). For that reason we have listed the size as “48” rather than “46–48”.
