SWEDISH DARK BLUE 1949 TWO PIECE DOUBLE BREASTED BESPOKE SUIT BY A.B. HÖGBERG & WINBLADS. SIZE CA EU 50

DESCRIPTION

This suit was bespoke made in 1949 at the tailoring house Högberg & Winblads, located in the small town of Åmål in central Sweden. The suit is two-piece and made from a dark navy cloth with a small-scale herringbone pattern.

The jacket is double-breasted with two rows of buttons, both of which are functional. It has horizontal jetted pockets and a breast pocket. There is a buttonhole on the left lapel. The back is straight and closed, with no vent. Inside, it is fully lined and has one inner pocket on the right-hand side. The pocket contains the tailor’s label, revealing the name of the tailoring house and the date of delivery.

The trousers are somewhat unusual in their design. They feature double pleats, a button fly, and a fairly generous coin pocket on the right-hand side just below the waistband. The pockets are vertical. On the inside of the waistband, there are buttons for braces.

As for the condition, the overall impression is good. However, when examined closely, a number of minor flaws become apparent. Most of these are concealed when the suit is worn, such as small flaws in the lining and an odd braces button. There is also a small area of damage to the cloth on the front of the jacket near the lapel. Please study the photographs and form your own view of the condition.

SIZE

When converted to modern sizing, the jacket and trousers differ somewhat in size, as is often the case with bespoke suits. The jacket’s chest measurement places it somewhere between an EU 50 (UK/US 40) and an EU 52 (UK/US 42). The trousers, on the other hand, correspond to just an EU 46 (UK/US 36). In other words, this suit would be best suited to a well-built individual with a developed chest and a slim waist.

It should, however, be noted that there are 6 centimetres of allowance in the trousers’ waist. If this is let out, the waist measurement would fall somewhere between an EU 48 (UK/US 38) and an EU 50 (UK/US 40). There are also a few centimetres available to let out in length if required.
