DESCRIPTION
This suit is of Swedish origin. It was produced sometime during the 1950s by SIR, a Swedish ready-to-wear company founded in 1925. It was originally sold new at a menswear shop called Annerstedts in Nyköping, about 100 km south of Stockholm. There is an interesting bit of background about SIR and Annerstedts — this was actually the first retailer SIR ever partnered with, and their collaboration lasted for many decades, right up until the turn of the millennium when Annerstedts closed down for good. The SIR brand, however, still exists today.
The suit is made from a dark grey fabric with a subtle twill structure. When examined closely, you can also see light blue threads woven into the fabric. The cloth is of Belgian origin, produced by Tissage de Deynze.
The jacket is single-breasted and fastens with three buttons. It features horizontal jetted front pockets and a breast pocket. There is a buttonhole on the left lapel. The back is straight and closed — it does not have a vent. Inside, the jacket is fully lined and has three inner pockets: one larger on each side, plus a smaller one for pens and similar items on the left side.
The trousers have double pleats, slightly slanted side pockets, and a zip fly. They feature belt loops at the waistband and buttons on the inside for braces.
The overall condition is good. Upon closer inspection, you’ll find some minor imperfections — as is often the case with suits that are 70 years old. There is light wear on the buttonholes of the jacket, and some discolouration in the lining of both the jacket and the trousers, though nothing that affects the overall impression or is visible when the suit is worn. SIZE
In terms of size, it corresponds to a modern EU 48 (UK/US 38). There is a fair amount of extra fabric in the trousers, both at the waist and the hem, should adjustments be needed. Please scroll down for exact measurements and seam allowances.
