DESCRIPTION
This suit bears no label, but we can confidently say that it is of Swedish origin and was tailored sometime during the 1940s. The fabric appears, from a distance, to be a solid light grey or beige, but upon closer inspection, it reveals a subtle micro-pattern made up of tiny dark brown dots on a beige background.
The jacket is single-breasted with three-button fastening. It features horizontal front pockets with welt finish and a breast pocket. The lapels are wide, in true 1940s fashion, and the left one has a functional buttonhole. The back is plain and unvented. The jacket is fully lined and has two interior pockets, one on each side.
The trousers are high-waisted, as was typical of the era, and feature double pleats. They have slightly slanted front pockets and a button fly. One notable detail is the presence of tunnel loops – a design where the belt is partially concealed in a channel running along the waistband. This feature is characteristic of Swedish tailoring from the 1940s. Inside the waistband, there are buttons for braces. At the back, there is one pocket on each side, both with button closure. The legs are finished with turn-ups.
Overall, the condition of the suit is very good. It’s clear that it has seen minimal wear – for instance, the lining is free from discolouration, which is almost always present in suits of this age. However, there are a few things to note: there is a small stain on the right trouser leg, which may be removable with targeted spot cleaning. The suit has also undergone a few alterations, which affect the cut more than the size: the shoulder pads have been reduced, and the trousers have been taken in slightly. That said, all original fabric has been retained, meaning the alterations could theoretically be reversed if desired. Please study the photos carefully to form your own impression of the suit’s condition.
SIZE
The fit corresponds approximately to a modern EU 54 SHORT (UK/US 44 SHORT). There is ample fabric in the hem to let down the trousers, either by removing the turn-ups or by converting them into faux cuffs.
