SWEDISH 1942 DARK BLUE STRIPED THREE PIECE BESPOKE SUIT BY STRÖMS. SIZE CA EU 52-54

DESCRIPTION

This classic three-piece bespoke suit is of Swedish origin, tailored in 1942 at Ströms Herrskrädderi in Stockholm. It is made from a dark navy fabric featuring a broad but fairly subtle pinstripe – a material that was highly typical for the era.

The jacket is double-breasted with three rows of buttons, two of which fasten. It features horizontal jetted front pockets and a breast pocket. Each lapel has a buttonhole. The back is straight and unvented. Inside, the jacket is fully lined and includes two interior pockets, one on each side.

The waistcoat is single-breasted and fastens with six buttons. It features four front pockets – two at chest height and two lower ones. As is often the case with bespoke tailoring, there is no adjustment strap at the back, as the fit was considered precise enough not to require one. The waistcoat is lined with light grey silk and includes a well-crafted internal pocket on the left side, complete with a flap and button closure.

The trousers are high-waisted with double pleats and vertical front pockets. They feature a button fly and internal buttons for braces. The hems are finished with turn-ups – another classic period detail.

In terms of condition, the overall impression is good, though there are a few things worth noting. The jacket has a discreet repair on the front, between the buttons. There is some damage to the lining around the armholes, as well as minor wear to the lower lining inside the jacket. A few areas of light discolouration can also be found in the lining. These issues are only noticeable upon closer inspection, and as mentioned, the overall visual impression when worn remains very good. SIZE

When converted to modern sizing, the individual pieces vary slightly:

• The jacket corresponds most closely to a modern EU 54 (UK/US 44).

• The waistcoat measures closer to EU 50 (UK/US 40) based on chest width. However, there is some fabric available to let out, and we estimate it could be increased by approximately one full size to EU 52 (US/UK42).

• The trousers correspond to a modern EU 52 (UK/US 42), with some extra fabric available that could potentially bring them up to EU 54 (UK/US 44).

• Note: The inseam differs by approximately 1 cm between the two legs. There is no extra fabric available to lengthen the trousers.
