SWEDISH 1940S SAGE-GREEN TWO PIECE SINGLE BREASTED SUIT BY AB ELIT. SIZE CA EU 46 SHORT

DESCRIPTION

What makes this suit particularly unusual is its colour. We have likely never before sold a Swedish 1940s suit in this sage green shade! It is of Swedish origin, produced by AB Elit in Norrköping, southern Sweden. The cut and details are very typical of the 1940s – the jacket features a two-button, relatively low single-breasted front and wide lapels. The trousers include details such as a small coin pocket, characteristic of the era.

The jacket has horizontal welt pockets and a breast pocket. There is a buttonhole on the left lapel. The back is clean, with no vent – again, typical of the time. The interior is fully lined with two inner pockets, one on each side.

The trousers feature double pleats, slanted front pockets, a button fly, and a coin pocket on the right-hand side. They are fitted with so-called tunnel loops, meaning the belt is partially hidden in a channel around the waistband. There are buttons inside the waistband for braces. The trousers have turn-ups at the hems. At the back, there is one pocket on each side, both with button closure.

The overall condition of the suit is good, with only a few minor marks and slight discolouration in the lining. However, there is one important issue to take into consideration before purchasing: along the bottom edges of the trouser legs, there is brown discolouration caused by shoe polish rubbing off onto the fabric. It is unlikely this can be removed to a degree that would allow the trousers to be let down without a visible brown line. This means you are limited to the current length, even though extra fabric is available. Please review the photos carefully and make your own assessment of the condition.

Based on the chest measurement, the suit corresponds to a modern EU 46 (UK/US 36). However, as mentioned above, due to the discolouration at the trouser hems, it is unlikely they can be lengthened without visible staining. The current inseam is 67 cm, so your inseam should not exceed this in order to wear the suit properly. In other words, this suit is best suited for someone who wears an EU 46 short (UK/US 36 short).
