DESCRIPTION
This suit no longer has any labels from the maker, but we can nonetheless say with confidence that it is of Swedish origin, tailored sometime during the 1940s. It is highly representative of the era, both in cut and construction. The fabric is a grey herringbone-like weave with a subtle yet rather wide red stripe running through it.
The jacket is double-breasted with three rows of buttons, of which two are used for fastening. It features horizontal welt pockets and a breast pocket. Both lapels have buttonholes, a charming and practical detail. The back is straight and unvented. Inside, the jacket is fully lined and has two inner pockets—one on each side. Spare buttons are sewn into the lining.
The trousers are also period-typical, with a high waist, button fly, double pleats, and internal brace buttons. A notable feature is the tunnel loop waistband, which allows for a belt to pass partially hidden through a channel—a detail commonly seen in 1940s Swedish tailoring. The trousers are finished with turn-ups, and the back features two pockets, both with flaps and button closures.
The condition of this suit is far from perfect—there are several repairs to the fabric, particularly in the trousers. It is still wearable, but these flaws should be taken into account before purchase. Please study the photos closely to form your own impression of the condition. If you're able to overlook the flaws, this remains an excellent and authentic piece from its time. The price reflects the noted imperfections.
SIZE
The jacket corresponds to a modern EU 50 (US/UK 40). The trousers are slightly smaller, based on the waist measurement. When let out to their maximum, they would fit approximately a modern EU 48 (US/UK 38), still slightly smaller than the jacket. This suit would best suit an athletic build—broader shoulders with a narrower waist. Please scroll down for exact measurements.
