DESCRIPTION
This jacket is of Swedish origin and was made sometime during the 1940s or 1950s. At that time, Sweden’s centre for leather production was located in the province of Dalarna, more specifically around the small town of Malung. We have not been able to identify the exact manufacturer of this jacket, but it was in all likelihood produced in this area. Inside the lining there is a label reading “Äkta getskinn” (genuine goatskin). Over the years, the jacket has developed a fine patina, displaying varying reddish-brown tones.
It is double-breasted, with three rows of buttons and an additional fastening at the top of the neck. It features horizontal front pockets with flaps, and each lapel has a buttonhole. The jacket is belted at the waist, creating a defined silhouette. Internally, it is fully lined, with a small brown check wool fabric in the body and brown cotton in the sleeves. There is one inner pocket on the right-hand side.
As for the condition, there are some minor signs of wear to the lining, particularly around the cuffs. As previously mentioned, the jacket has developed a pleasing patina over time, with the leather varying in tone across different areas. Some of that heritage can be found here with us in the form of leather jackets in various styles, often made from goatskin. The high level of craftsmanship and the quality of the leather are distinctive features of garments from this period.
