DESCRIPTION
This is a coat one rarely comes across. It bears no labels, yet we can confidently say it is of Swedish origin, made sometime during the 1910s or 1920s. It is quite unusual to find Swedish coats from this period in such a light colour. The fabric is relatively lightweight and best described as a light brown or sand tone.
The coat is single-breasted with a concealed front fastening and closes with three buttons. It features horizontal front pockets with large flaps, as well as a breast pocket – a detail commonly seen on Swedish coats in the early 20th century, but almost entirely gone by the 1930s. The back is straight and unvented. Internally, it is fully lined and has an interior pocket on the right-hand side.
The coat also features period-typical decorative stitching along the hem, cuffs, and pockets. Another detail characteristic of the time is the shoulder seams, which are placed far back on the shoulder, creating a sloped, elegant silhouette.
Considering its age – and the lightness of the fabric – the condition is remarkably good. There are a few faint marks on the fabric, including one on the left lapel, though they do not detract from the overall impression when worn. There is also a small flaw in the fabric at the collar, but it remains hidden when the coat is worn. The original lining is intact and in excellent condition. With coats of this era, it's common for buttons to be broken or missing, but here, all original buttons are present and in good condition. In summary – a true collector’s piece.
