SWEDISH 1920S OLIVE GREEN SHEEPSKIN-LINED OVERCOAT WITH SHEEPSKIN COLLAR. SIZE CA EU 54 (US/UK 44)

DESCRIPTION

This overcoat is probably around 100 years old and of Swedish origin. It has no labels, so it is impossible to establish its exact origins with any certainty, but it was most likely made to measure. It is made from an olive-green cloth with a subtle twill weave, a type of cloth characteristic of the period.

The overcoat is double-breasted and has three rows of buttons, all of which are used for fastening. There is also an extra button at the top of the neck, allowing the collar to be fastened in particularly icy winds. It has horizontal front pockets with substantial flaps, with slanted hand-warmer pockets above them at chest level. The collar is made from light brown sheepskin. At the back, there is a buttoned half-belt with two buttons. Internally, the body is lined with the same type of sheepskin as the collar.

In one respect, the condition is excellent: all the buttons are present, and there is no significant damage to either the cloth or the sheepskin, which is quite unusual for overcoats of this age with sheepskin lining. However, there is one factor to take into consideration when considering a purchase: the overcoat has faded over the years. This is most noticeable when the collar is turned up. When worn in the usual way, with the collar turned down, however, the fading is very even, and it is not something that immediately catches the eye.
