DESCRIPTION
This is a remarkable leather coat. It has no labels, so there is no way of saying who produced it. Judging by the design of the coat, it most likely dates from the 1920s. It is not necessarily of Swedish origin; it may possibly be of German origin, but it is difficult to say anything with certainty. It is made from brown horsehide. The coat is reversible, meaning that it can be turned inside out and worn with the lining on the outside.
It is double-breasted and has three rows of buttons, all of which are functional. It has slightly slanted front pockets with substantial pocket flaps, and there are buttonholes in the lapels so that the coat can be fastened at the neck. There are flaps at the cuffs. The waist is belted. There are decorative seams along the bottom edge. As mentioned above, the coat is reversible, meaning that the lining becomes the outer material when it is turned inside out. As a result, it has no conventional inner pockets, but it does have large pockets with flaps corresponding to those on the leather side.
The condition of this coat is far from perfect when examined in detail. The leather has developed a lovely patina, which only adds to the appeal of a garment such as this. There are, however, also some defects that are better regarded as damage rather than patina. The leather on the belt, for example, is slightly damaged. Overall, the leather side can be said to be in better condition than the cloth side. We imagine, however, that it is the leather side that one would want to wear. The lining is in perfectly decent condition when considered as a lining. If you are interested, we strongly recommend studying the photographs carefully, as all the minor areas of damage are documented in the photographs. As for the buttons, it is unclear whether these are the original buttons, but all the buttons are present and none are missing.
Taken as a whole, this is a truly fine collector's garment that a future owner should be able to enjoy for a lifetime.
