DESCRIPTION
This rare long coat with silk lapels is worn over white tie, its length fully concealing the tailcoat beneath. It was bespoke-made in 1925 by J.M. Janson & Wallgren, a tailoring firm that represented the very pinnacle of Swedish craftsmanship for around 200 years. Several of the finest garments we have ever sold come from this firm, where both royalty and high society had their clothes made.
The coat is made from a black wool fabric with a subtle herringbone weave. It is single-breasted with a concealed fastening and features three front buttons. It has horizontal front pockets with flaps and a buttonhole on the left lapel. The back is straight and has a single vent. Internally, it is fully lined with black silk and has two inner pockets – one on each side.
As for the condition, there are a few points to note. It is not perfect; the most notable issue is that the pocket linings are heavily worn and would need replacing. There is also some minor wear, including along the edge of the lapel and at the back of the collar. However, this is not particularly noticeable when the coat is worn. It should also be borne in mind that it is over 100 years old. The condition has been reflected in the price. Please study the images carefully and form your own opinion of the condition.
