DESCRIPTION
This coat is somewhat unusual in its design. It has no labels, but we can still say with confidence that it is of Swedish origin. It was most likely made during the 1940s or 1950s, although where and by whom remains unknown. It features a large sheepskin fur collar, and the interior is lined with what appears to be the same type of fur. The fur has a dark brown tone, almost black, with some lighter undertones that appear in certain lighting. The rest of the coat is black.
It is double-breasted with four rows of buttons, three of which are functional. It has horizontal front pockets with flaps. At the back, it has a half-belt but no vent - the back is closed. There is a button at each cuff.
Inside, as mentioned, the body is fully lined with dark sheepskin fur. At the ends of the sleeves, the lining features cuffs made of lighter brown fur. There are no inner pockets.
The coat is unusually short in length - almost between a coat and a jacket. This could be because it was shortened at some point, but it’s difficult to say for certain. The sleeve length suggests it was made for a tall person, so it may have been intended to be shorter overall than what is typical for this kind of coat.
As for its condition, there are a few things to note. This type of coat was likely used in quite demanding conditions, and that is reflected in its wear. The fabric shows areas of light fading in several places; however, these appear more pronounced in the photos than they do in real life. There are also minor tears in the fur lining and small damages in the sleeve lining - nothing that requires repair or affects wearability, but worth mentioning. There is also a small tear in the fabric near the right pocket.
This is perhaps not a coat for formal occasions, but it will certainly keep you warm, and it is an unusual piece - a perfect addition for anyone who appreciates garments with patina and character. Please study the photos carefully to form your own opinion of the condition.
SIZE
In modern sizing, it corresponds to an EU 56 (US/UK 46). This estimate assumes it is worn over a suit jacket. If worn with lighter clothing, it may also fit someone who normally wears a slightly larger size. The sleeve length suggests it was originally made for a tall person.
