DESCRIPTION
Not much is known about the origins of this coat. It carries no label other than a small tag with a serial number inside the inner pocket. From studying the interior construction, however, we can say with some certainty that it is not of Swedish origin. It could possibly be French or German.
As for its age, it was most likely tailored sometime during the 1930s or 1940s. It is made from a heavy navy blue wool fabric with a subtle twill texture.
The coat is double-breasted, fastening with two rows of buttons. The front pockets are vertical with flaps, and each lapel features a buttonhole. The lapels are broad, typical of the era. The back is straight and features a single vent.
Inside, the coat is fully lined and has a large interior pocket on each side. The way the lining is finished around the pockets would, in a Swedish context, strongly suggest a 1930s origin. However, given that the coat is from elsewhere, we prefer not to draw any firm conclusions based solely on that detail.
The overall condition is good. There are no major flaws that affect the overall impression, but a few minor points are worth noting:
The lapel shows slight signs of wear, and there is some light fabric wear visible on the back. Otherwise, it is in very nice condition.
Please study the photos carefully and form your own opinion of the condition.
SIZE
This coat is somewhat unusual in its sizing in a way that it is of larger size than we normally see. In terms of chest width, it corresponds to a modern EU size 56–58 (UK/US 46–48). However, the sleeve length suggests a significantly shorter fit. Therefore, we would describe this as a EU 56–58 SHORT (UK/US 46–48 SHORT). Please scroll down for exact measurements.
