DESCRIPTION
This single jacket bears no labels, but a closer examination makes it immediately apparent that it is bespoke tailored, most likely during the 1940s. It is most likely of Swedish origin, although there is also a possibility that it was produced in Britain. The construction of the lining around the inside pockets is not entirely characteristic of Swedish tailoring, although examples such as this do occasionally occur. The jacket is made from a navy blue pinstripe wool cloth, a fabric we would strongly associate with this period.
The jacket is double-breasted with three rows of buttons, two of which are functional. It features straight flapped hip pockets and a slightly slanted breast pocket. The lapels are characteristically wide for the period, with a buttonhole in each lapel. The cuffs are finished with three buttons. The back is plain, with no vent.
The interior is fully lined and is particularly well made, reflecting a high standard of craftsmanship. It is fitted with neatly jetted inside pockets, one on each side.
Overall, the jacket presents well and has no immediately obvious flaws. Closer inspection, however, reveals a few minor imperfections. The most noticeable is a small area of damage to the cloth beneath the left-hand pocket. A skilled tailor should be able to improve its appearance. There is also some light discolouration to the lining, although this is, of course, not visible when the jacket is worn. Taken as a whole, the quality of the tailoring and craftsmanship far outweighs these minor defects. Please examine the photographs carefully and form your own assessment of the condition. All imperfections have been thoroughly documented in the images.
SIZE
The jacket corresponds approximately to a modern EU 46–48 (UK/US 36–38). As it is a bespoke garment, it does not correspond exactly to a standard modern size but falls between these two. Please scroll down for the exact measurements.
