DESCRIPTION
This elegant smoking jacket is something truly special. It has no labels, but it was most likely made in Sweden. Although the fit of this type of jacket has remained fairly consistent over the years, the cut suggests that it may have been made around 1930. It was most likely made bespoke and is traditionally designed. It is made from a dark red velvet cloth; under the strong lighting of the photo studio the red tone appears quite pronounced, while in softer light it can verge on brown. It features a generously proportioned quilted shawl collar as well as quilted cuffs. The jacket is lined in the same quilted fabric, though in a different shade. The braiding is in brown and beige. It has three toggle closures and substantial external front pockets.
As for the condition, there is very little to remark upon. If one is being particularly meticulous, the only point worth noting is some slight wear at the back of the collar, which is really only noticeable when it is turned up, as shown in the photographs. This piece could just as easily belong in a museum.
