DESCRIPTION

These boots are unusual in that they are Swedish, brown, and date from the early decades of the 20th century. Swedish footwear from this period is relatively rare in itself, and the few examples that appear on the market are typically black. There are no markings other than a few numbers on the outsole, so the maker cannot be identified. They are made from embossed leather, most likely calfskin. From a design perspective, they feature several details typical of the period: a high heel, a narrow waist, and a rounded heel. The interior is lined with a thin fabric.

Turning the shoes over, it is clear from the leather soles and heels that they are entirely unused; they show only minor signs of having been tried on and possibly stored, which is not surprising given that they are over 100 years old. Another important detail becomes apparent when examining the soles: they are in fact a mismatched pair. The differences lie in the shade of the lining and the tone of the sole, with one being slightly darker brown than the other. The numbering on the soles is, however, identical—“8132”—and in all essential respects the shoes look and feel like a true pair. This has nevertheless been taken into account in the pricing.

There is some minor damage to the leather on the inside, possibly caused by labels or stickers that remained in place for many years and, when removed, took some of the surface with them. None of this will be visible when the shoes are worn. Please study the photographs and form your own opinion of the condition.

SIZE

The shoes are marked “41” on the outsole; however, the actual size is slightly smaller and corresponds to a modern EU 40 (US 7, UK 6.5). Please scroll down for the exact measurements.

Using good shoe trees is an important part of caring for your quality footwear. The shoe trees serve several functions that together help extend the life of your shoes. The cedar wood effectively absorbs moisture from the shoes, while the design of the shoe trees ensures that the shoes maintain their shape. The pleasantly scented wood also helps to minimise bad odours. We offer a split-toe model that expands once inserted to ensure that the upper leather is stretched sufficiently.
