DESCRIPTION
This is a rather unusual suit of Swedish origin, made to measure in November 1959 at the tailoring establishment Bröderna Jonsson in Örebro. It is made from a very substantial, light brown tweed cloth of a kind that is virtually impossible to find today. The cloth has a slight mélange effect.
The jacket is single-breasted and fastens with three buttons. It has horizontal front pockets with flaps and a breast pocket. There is a buttonhole in the left lapel, and four buttons at each cuff, all of which are working. This is actually not unusual in Swedish tailoring, where it was generally only the two lower cuff buttons that were made functional. The back is straight and has a single vent. It is fully lined and has two internal pockets, one on each side.
The trousers are high-waisted and have double pleats. They have belt loops and a button fly. There are also buttons for braces on the inside of the waistband. The front pockets are vertical. At the back, there is one pocket on each side, both with button closures.
The overall condition is very good, although there are a few minor imperfections which we will now describe. There is some slight wear to the collar, although, as is often the case, this is really only noticeable when the collar is turned up. When worn in its natural position, folded down, it is hardly noticeable. There is also some discolouration to the jacket lining around the armholes, as well as a small stain on the inside of the jacket. The trousers also have a minor area of discolouration. It is quite possible that this could be removed entirely with further cleaning. Please study the photographs and form your own impression of the condition.
SIZE
The suit corresponds to an EU 46 LONG (US/UK 36 LONG). The jacket has been taken in at the back at some point, and was most likely originally closer to an EU 48 (US/UK 38). There is an unusually generous amount of material available to let out at the waist, more than 10 cm if required. As mentioned, the back has also been taken in. However, the original material remains in the seam allowance, meaning that it would be possible to let the back out again if desired. Please scroll down for exact measurements and seam allowances.
