DESCRIPTION
This is an unusual suit in several respects. It is by Tiger, one of the best-known Swedish ready-to-wear labels. It was produced sometime during the 1930s or 1940s, although it is difficult to establish the exact year. The trousers have been taken in and were originally somewhat wider, which would suggest a slightly earlier date. We have never come across this particular cloth before. It is light brown and white, with subtle turquoise stripes at regular intervals. The overall impression, however, is light brown.
The jacket is double-breasted and has an unusual button configuration. It has three rows of buttons but fastens with just one button, whereas the standard for this configuration would normally be to fasten two. It has horizontal front pockets with welt openings and a breast pocket. Each of the broad lapels has a buttonhole. At the back, the jacket has a straight, closed design, with no vents. Internally, it is fully lined and has two internal pockets.
The trousers have double pleats, slanted front pockets and belt loops. Inside the waistband, there are buttons for braces. They have a button fly, and on the right-hand side there is a horizontal pocket with a flap. The hems have turn-ups. At the back, there is a pocket on each side, both with flaps and button fastenings.
The suit is perfectly wearable, although its condition is far from perfect. While the overall impression is good, closer inspection reveals a number of flaws. There is considerable discolouration to the lining, as well as some damage to the lining cloth. There is also some damage to the exterior, including wear around the cuffs and a couple of repairs. One of the buttonholes has been repaired.
To summarise, this is not the best condition we have come across, but from a collector's perspective, the suit's rarity more than makes up for this. It remains perfectly wearable, and most of the flaws are only apparent upon careful inspection. However, if you are considering purchasing it, it is particularly important to study the photos carefully and form your own impression of the condition.
