SWEDISH 1950S BLUE PATTERNED TWO PIECE SUIT. SIZE CA EU 44 LONG (US/UK34 LONG)

DESCRIPTION

This suit carries no labels, yet it is clearly of Swedish origin and was made sometime during the 1950s. It is cut from a very well-balanced cloth with a suitably restrained but still distinctive pattern, featuring a small-scale design in various shades of blue.

The jacket is single-breasted and fastens with three buttons. It has horizontal jetted front pockets and a breast pocket, with a buttonhole in the left lapel. The sleeves are finished with three buttons, without working buttonholes, which means that adjusting the sleeve length would be straightforward if required. The back is straight and closed, with no vent. Inside, the jacket is fully lined and features two interior pockets, one on each side.

The trousers have single pleats, slightly slanted front pockets, and belt loops. They also feature internal buttons at the waistband for braces, a button fly, and two rear pockets, both with flaps and button closure.

The overall condition is excellent. The only points to note are very minor areas of discolouration in the lining, both in the jacket and the trousers. It is likely that this suit has seen very little wear. Please study the photographs and form your own assessment of the condition.

SIZE

In terms of length, this suit corresponds most closely to an EU 48 (US/UK 38). However, when assessed by chest measurement — which is how we determine sizing — it corresponds to a modern EU 44 (US/UK 34). The trousers have been taken in significantly at the waist, with a full 7.5 centimetres available to be let out. In its current form, the suit will therefore be best suited to a tall, slim individual with a chest size around EU 44 (US/UK 34), but with a height of just over 180 cm (6'0").

There is also a considerable amount of cloth available to be let out in the jacket, meaning that, technically, it could be returned closer to its original size, which was likely nearer an EU 46–48 (US/UK 36–38) rather than an EU 44 (US/UK 34).
