SWEDISH 1940S/1950S GREY MELANGE THREE PIECE SUIT BY ABBEN OLSSON. SIZE CA EU 46-48 (US/UK36-38)

DESCRIPTION

This three-piece suit is of Swedish origin and was made by the tailor Abben Olsson Skrädderi in Uppsala, north of Stockholm. It is made from a mid-grey melange wool cloth.

The jacket is single-breasted and fastens with three buttons. It has horizontal front pockets with piping and a breast pocket. There is a buttonhole in the left lapel. The cuffs feature three buttons. At the back it is straight and closed — it has no vent. Internally, it is fully lined and has three inner pockets: one large pocket on each side and a smaller one on the left-hand side.

The waistcoat is single-breasted and fastens with six buttons. It has a total of five front pockets — two at chest height and two lower pockets, as well as an additional pen pocket on the left breast. At the back it has a buckle for adjusting the fit.

The trousers have double forward pleats, slightly slanted front pockets, and belt loops. They have a button fly, and on the inside of the waistband there are buttons for braces. At the back there is one pocket on each side, both with button fastening.

In terms of condition, the overall impression is good; however, upon closer inspection a number of imperfections become apparent. The most noticeable is a repair to the cloth on the lapel. There is also a repair to the trousers. It may also be worth noting that damage and repairs of this kind tend to appear far more noticeable in unforgiving studio lighting than they do in natural light. Aside from this, most of the issues consist of discolouration to the lining — something that is not visible when the suit is worn. SIZE

The suit was most likely made for a specific individual, as suggested by the measurements of the different pieces. The jacket and waistcoat are fairly close in size, approximately between an EU 46 (US/UK 36) and an EU 48 (US/UK 38). The trousers are somewhat larger in the waist, approximately an EU 52 (US/UK 42).
