SWEDISH 1940S GREY DOUBLE BREASTED SUIT BY OHLSSONS. SIZE CA EU 46-48

DESCRIPTION

This suit is of Swedish origin and was made sometime during the 1940s by Ohlssons. It was originally sold new by the menswear outfitter Bergströms in Gothenburg, at the time a large and well-known men’s clothing store. The suit is made from a mid-grey cloth of British origin, supplied by Coromil.

The jacket is double-breasted with three rows of buttons, two of which are functional. It features horizontal jetted front pockets and a breast pocket. There is a buttonhole on each lapel. The back is straight and closed, with no vent. Inside, it is fully lined and has three inner pockets: one large pocket on each side and a smaller pocket on the left-hand side.

The trousers have double pleats, slightly slanted front pockets, and a button fly. On the inside of the waistband, there are buttons for braces. At the back, there is one pocket on each side, both with flaps and button fastening. The trouser legs are finished with turn-ups.

As for the condition, there are a few minor points to note. These mainly concern the lining, where there are some discolourations, both in the jacket and the trousers. However, none of this is visible when the suit is worn. Please study the photographs and form your own view of the condition.

SIZE

In terms of size, when considering both the jacket and the trousers, the suit falls between a modern EU 46 (UK/US 36) and an EU 48 (UK/US 38). Based on the jacket measurements, it corresponds to the larger of these sizes, while the trousers are closer to the smaller size when judged by the waist measurement. There is, however, a generous amount of cloth available to let out in the waist if desired. Such an alteration would allow both pieces to match in size, corresponding roughly to an EU 48 (UK/US38).
