DESCRIPTION

According to its label, this suit was made in Italy. The brand is Simon Ackerman, a chain whose shops were primarily based in the United States, so it is quite possible that this suit was originally sold there — though we can only speculate. In its overall character, it feels distinctly American, apart from the fact that the jacket is fully lined; at the time, American jackets were more commonly half-lined. It is made from a medium-grey fabric that is somewhat lighter than the cloth typically seen in Swedish suits from the same era, making it quite suitable as a summer suit.

The jacket is single-breasted and fastens with three buttons. It features horizontal front pockets with flaps and a breast pocket. There is a buttonhole on the left lapel. The back is straight with a single vent — a short one, which we would also describe as a typically American feature. As mentioned, the interior is fully lined and has two inner pockets, one on each side — the left one with a button fastening and flap.

The trousers have double front pleats and vertical side pockets. They are fitted with a zip fly and belt loops. The hems are turned up. At the back, they have the somewhat unusual combination of one pocket with flap and button fastening (left) and one jetted pocket (right).

The overall condition is good, though not flawless. There is a small imperfection in the fabric near the bottom of the right sleeve. There are also some light discolourations in the jacket’s underarms and the trouser lining. None of these minor flaws affect the overall impression. Trivia: Simon Ackerman himself is best known as the man who founded Chester Barrie and later brought the brand to the United States, with the aim of offering classic British menswear to the American market.

Based on the chest measurement alone, the jacket sits between a EU 48 (US/UK 38) and a EU 50 (US/UK 40). However, we believe the suit as a whole would best fit someone who wears a EU 50 (US/UK 40), as the trouser waist corresponds well to that size.
