DESCRIPTION
This suit is of Swedish origin and was produced by the well-known Swedish ready-to-wear brand Tiger, most likely in the late 1940s or early 1950s. It is made from a rather distinctive fabric, heavily striated with a pattern in shades of brown and eggshell on a brown base. The character of the pattern makes the stripes visible even from a distance – a fairly eccentric fabric for the time. The fabric was produced by Kilsunds, one of Sweden's most renowned textile manufacturers of the era.
The jacket is cut in a period-typical style, with wide lapels and a low two-button front closure, characteristic of the fashion around 1950. It features horizontal welted front pockets and a breast pocket. There is a buttonhole on the left lapel. The back is straight with a single vent. Internally, the jacket is fully lined and has an inner pocket on each side.
The trousers are also cut in a period-accurate style, with double pleats, slightly slanted front pockets, and belt loops. They feature a button fly, and on the inside of the waistband, there are buttons for braces. The trouser legs are finished with turn-ups. On the back, there are two pockets, each with a flap and button closure.
In terms of condition, the overall impression is good. However, as is often the case with vintage garments, there are some minor flaws upon closer inspection. Most of the wear is limited to the interior and consists mainly of discolouration rather than actual damage such as holes. The lining shows some discolouration at the armholes and cuffs of the jacket, as well as in the trouser lining. This is, however, not visible when worn and does not affect the overall appearance.
Please study the photos carefully and form your own opinion regarding the condition.
SIZE
The suit corresponds approximately to a modern EU size 48 (UK/US 38).
The trousers are slightly smaller in the waist, but there is ample seam allowance to let them out and bring them in line with EU size 48 (UK/US 38).
