SWEDISH 1940S BLACK THREE PIECE SUIT BY SVENSK-ENGELSKA SKRÄDDERIET. SIZE CA EU 44-46

DESCRIPTION

This black three-piece suit is of Swedish origin, tailored sometime during the 1940s by Svensk-Engelska Skrädderiet, a tailoring house and shop that was, at the time, located on Drottninggatan in central Stockholm.

The jacket is single-breasted with a three-button front. It features horizontal welted front pockets and a breast pocket. The back is straight and without a vent. Inside, the jacket is fully lined and includes three interior pockets—one large pocket on each side and a smaller one on the left.

The waistcoat is single-breasted and fastens with five buttons. It features four front pockets—two at the chest and two lower ones. The back has an adjustable buckle for size alterations.

The trousers are typical of the era, with double pleats and what is known as a tunnel loop waistband, where the belt is partially concealed in a channel running along the waistband. They have a button fly and interior brace buttons. At the back, there are two pockets with flaps and button closures. They also feature what’s known as a fishtail back—a partially open centre seam at the back of the waistband, a detail commonly seen in Swedish trousers up until the 1930s.

The overall condition is very good, with no visible damage to the outer fabric. The only notable wear is some discolouration to the lining, particularly in the pockets—something frequently seen in suits of this age. These do not affect the overall appearance when worn. The suit fits between a modern EU 44 (UK/US 34) and EU 46 (UK/US 36). There is some fabric available for letting out the trousers, particularly at the waist, should that be needed. Please scroll down for exact measurements and seam allowances.
