DESCRIPTION
This suit, unfortunately, bears no label, but we can confidently state that it is of Swedish origin and was produced sometime during the 1930s. It is made from a heavy dark navy fabric with a subtle twill texture. The shade of blue is very dark—almost bordering on black.
The jacket is single-breasted and fastens with three buttons. It features horizontal front pockets with flaps, and the left lapel includes a buttonhole. The lapels are sharply pointed, in a manner typical of the era. The back is straight and lacks a vent. Inside, the jacket is fully lined and includes an interior pocket on the right side.
The waistcoat is also single-breasted and fastens with five buttons. It has four front pockets—two at the chest and two lower ones. The lining is a striped cotton fabric, and the back includes an adjustable buckle for size alterations.
The trousers feature a single pleat, slanted front pockets, and what is known as a belt loop channel, meaning the belt is partially hidden in a sewn channel along the waistband. They have a button fly, and buttons are sewn into the inner waistband for braces. On each side, there are side adjusters for easy waist adjustment. At the back, there is a single welt pocket on the right-hand side. The trouser hems are finished with turn-ups.
Overall, this is a highly characteristic suit of the period— with short jacket, peak lapel and wide trousers, perfect for achieving that quintessential 1930s silhouette.
The condition is good, with no notable damage to the fabric. The only minor issue is some discolouration to the lining, particularly inside the pockets, but this is quite typical for garments of this distinguished age. These marks do not affect the appearance when the suit is worn.
Please study the photographs carefully to form your own opinion of the condition.
SIZE
The jacket fits between a modern EU 46 (UK/US 36) and EU 48 (UK/US 38) based on chest measurements. The trousers are slightly larger, with a waist measurement equivalent to a modern EU 50 (UK/US 40), though taking in the waistband is a simple alteration if needed. The waistcoat is also somewhat roomy in the chest but, of course, can easily be tailored for a closer fit. Please scroll down for exact measurements.
