DESCRIPTION

This suede jacket is of Swedish origin, and was most likely made sometime during the 1950s. The maker is unknown, as there is no manufacturer label present. However, during this time, almost all production of this kind took place in and around Malung, in the Dalarna region, so it is reasonable to assume the same applies here.

It does, however, have a label indicating the original retailer: Tropps Herrkläder in Gothenburg. Beneath that label is another that reads “äkta getskinn” (genuine goatskin). The jacket is made from brown suede in a warm, earthy tone.

The jacket fastens with a zip, and features angled front pockets. Around the neckline, it has a braided cotton trim, which adds both a visual detail and extra comfort – softening the feel around the neck. At the bottom hem on either side, there are side vents that fasten with a drawstring. The interior is lined in a checked wool fabric, and includes two inside pockets, one on each side, both with button closures.

There are signs of wear, as expected with a garment of this age and material, but the overall condition is still relatively good. The most noticeable wear is around the collar, which is typical for a jacket. There is also some wear at the bottom of the sleeve lining, but overall, the jacket has developed a nice patina. Please refer to the photos and form your own opinion of the condition.

SIZE

The jacket corresponds to a modern EU 48 (UK/US 38).
Please scroll down for the exact measurements.

Note: The jacket features a raglan sleeve construction, so the sleeve length has been measured from the centre of the collar to the end of the sleeve, rather than shoulder to cuff.

Sweden had a prominent leather industry during the first half of the 20th century, largely concentrated in Malung, in the province of Dalarna. Some of that heritage can be found here with us in the form of leather jackets in various styles, often made from goatskin. The high level of craftsmanship and the quality of the leather are distinctive features of garments from this period.
