DESCRIPTION
This overcoat was made to measure at Melker Lindvall’s tailoring establishment in Stockholm in 1946. Melker Lindvall was a centrally located tailoring establishment catering for both men and women. It is made from a substantial tweed cloth in a distinctive rust colour.
The overcoat is single-breasted and fastens with three buttons. It has horizontal front pockets with flaps, and the lapels have no buttonholes. At the back, it is straight-cut and has a single vent. When the overcoat is turned inside out, a beautiful brown wool lining in a large check pattern is revealed. The interior is very finely finished, making it clear that the garment was made to measure. It has one internal pocket on each side, both with flaps and button fastenings.
The overall condition is good, although not perfect. There are a few things worth noting. At some point, the buttonholes were enlarged, but this has since been reversed. If you know what to look for, the alterations can be detected, although doing so requires a fairly close examination of the overcoat. The hem has also been let down at some point, and the same applies here: the alteration is certainly detectable on closer inspection, but it does not detract from the overall appearance. If you lift the lapels, you can also see that the cloth has faded slightly over the years, as is often the case with older garments. The fading is even, however, so the overcoat does not appear faded when worn, although it would originally have been a slightly darker shade. It is also worth bearing in mind that these types of imperfections are much more noticeable under strong studio lighting than they will be in natural light when the overcoat is worn.
Naturally, however, these are details worth being aware of when considering a purchase.
Otherwise, this is a very fine overcoat in a colour that is unusual in a Swedish context. Please study the photos and form your own impression of the condition.
