SWEDISH 1930S/1940S BLUE-GREY HERRINGBONE OVERCOAT BY ELSON. SIZE CA 46 LONG (US/UK36L)

DESCRIPTION

This coat is of Swedish origin and was produced by Elson, most likely sometime during the 1930s. Elson was a ready-to-wear brand belonging to the firm AB Erikson & Larson of Borås, in southern Sweden. The coat is made from a heavy herringbone wool cloth in a tone best described as grey-blue.

The coat is single-breasted with a concealed button fastening, closing with four front buttons. It features horizontal front pockets with flaps and a buttonhole on the left lapel. The back is straight and finished with a high vent.

Internally, it is fully lined and very well made, resembling a bespoke coat more than a typical ready-to-wear garment. It has one inside pocket on each side.

The overall impression of the coat is good; however, there are some flaws visible upon closer inspection. The edge of the collar is slightly discoloured, which becomes apparent when turned up. There are also some minor areas of discolouration. The most significant defect is a repair on the front near one of the buttons; this is relatively discreet and completely hidden when the coat is fastened. Please study the photographs carefully and form your own opinion regarding the condition.

All in all, this is a very imposing coat that one does not encounter on the market every day, not least due to its length.
