DESCRIPTION
This suit is of Swedish origin and was bespoke by Henry Törnsten & Co in Gothenburg, on the Swedish west coast, in 1949. It is made from a lightweight, subtly mottled mid-grey wool fabric.
The jacket is double-breasted with three button rows, of which two are functional. It features horizontal front pockets with flaps and a breast pocket. There is a buttonhole on the left lapel. The jacket is finely tailored with a defined waist. The back is straight and closed, with no vent. The sleeve cuffs have working buttonholes. The interior is fully lined and has large inner pockets — one on each side, with one divided into two smaller compartments. In addition, there is a unique rectangular patch pocket on the left side with an opening leading to the breast pocket, just above which sits a small loop. The purpose of this design is unknown, but it could, for instance, have been a clever way to hide a microphone cable, guiding it into the breast pocket and down to a device placed in the outer pocket. This, however, is purely speculative.
The trousers have double pleats, vertical front pockets, and belt loops. They feature a button fly, and there are buttons on the inside of the waistband for braces. At the back, there is one pocket on each side, both with button closures. The leg ends are cuffed.
In terms of condition, the fabric is generally good with no significant damage. Some discoloration should be noted, mainly on the interior lining around the armholes and cuffs, with a few minor marks on the exterior. However, this is not particularly noticeable when the suit is worn, and the overall impression remains very good. Please study the photos to form your own impression of the condition.
