DESCRIPTION
The exact place of production of this dressing gown is unclear. It was sold new by the retail chain Carl Axel, which operated several large shops in Stockholm during this period. However, it is marked as an import, meaning it was not produced in Sweden; England is a likely possibility.
The gown is made from a soft wool fabric with black-and-green striping and a rust-coloured windowpane check. It features a plain green shawl collar and large patch pockets. It is fastened at the waist with a belt and has no buttons.
In terms of condition, there is no damage such as tears or holes. There is, however, some pilling to the fabric that has developed over the years. This is fairly evenly distributed across the garment and therefore not particularly noticeable. Please review the images and form your own assessment of the condition.
SIZE
Sizing a garment like this can be somewhat difficult, as it is considerably more forgiving than a tailored jacket. We estimate that it corresponds to a modern EU 50 SHORT (US/UK 40 SHORT). The shoulder width is certainly appropriate for this size, though one should probably not be taller than 180 cm for the length to be ideal. Please scroll down for exact measurements.
