SWEDISH 1955 GREY MÉLANGE THREE PIECE BESPOKE SUIT BY MEA. SIZE CA EU 48

DESCRIPTION

This finely tailored three-piece suit is of Swedish origin, made in 1955 at MEA in Stockholm. MEA — short for MilitärEkiperingsAktiebolaget — was a classic department store in Stockholm and a well-known part of the cityscape until it went bankrupt in the mid-1980s. The suit is made from a grey mélange wool fabric of slightly heavier weight.

The jacket is single-breasted and fastens with three buttons. It features horizontal jetted front pockets and a breast pocket, with a buttonhole on the left lapel. The back is straight with a single vent. Inside, it is fully lined and has two inner pockets, one on each side.

The waistcoat is single-breasted with six buttons and four front pockets – two at chest height and two lower ones. On the back, it has an adjustable strap, and inside it is lined with light cotton twill. It also features two internal pockets with flaps and button closures – a detail almost exclusively found in bespoke tailoring.

The trousers are high-waisted and conservatively cut, with double pleats, external brace buttons, and a fishtail back. They have a button fly and turn-ups at the hem. At the back, there is one jetted pocket on each side.

The overall condition is very good. As is often the case with vintage garments, a closer inspection reveals some minor imperfections – for instance, slight discolouration in the lining of both the jacket and the waistcoat. However, none of this is visible when the suit is worn, and the overall impression remains excellent. In summary, this is a fine example of Swedish tailoring and a faithful representative of its era.
