SWEDISH 1940S BLUE STRIPED TWO PIECE SUIT BY RAPPSON. SIZE CA EU 52 (US/UK42)

DESCRIPTION

This suit is of Swedish origin and by Rappson, a well-known Swedish ready-to-wear manufacturer that had its heyday during the 1940s. The suit dates from this period. It is made from a wool fabric in a fairly bold blue tone with a subtle pinstripe. Although we have not encountered this exact fabric before, it is nevertheless very period-appropriate in character.

The jacket is single-breasted with a three-button fastening. It features horizontal welted front pockets and a breast pocket. There is a buttonhole on the left lapel. The back is straight and has no vent. Internally, the jacket is fully lined and has three inner pockets—one large pocket on each side, plus an additional smaller pocket on the left.

The trousers feature double forward pleats and slightly slanted front pockets. They have both belt loops and buttons on the inside of the waistband for braces. The fly is button-fastened, and the trouser hems are finished with turn-ups. At the back, there is one pocket on each side, both with flaps and button closures.

In terms of condition, the overall impression is good, although closer inspection reveals a few points to note. The sleeves have been lengthened at some point, which can be detected at the cuffs. There are also some discolourations in the lining, both in the jacket and the trousers. In addition, there is a small area of pilling on the jacket fabric along the front edge.
