DESCRIPTION
This suit is of Swedish origin. It was tailor-made in 1955 at M. Olsson’s tailoring shop in Torshälla, not far from Stockholm. It is made from a brown cloth with a fairly pronounced red stripe – a fabric more typical of the 1940s than the 1950s, so the material may well have been a few years old when the suit was ordered.
The jacket is single-breasted and fastens with three buttons. It has horizontal jetted pockets and a breast pocket. There is a buttonhole on the left lapel. The back is straight and has no vent. Inside, it is fully lined and has two inner pockets.
The trousers feature double pleats, slightly slanted front pockets, and a button fly. They have what is known as a belt loop construction, meaning that any belt sits partly concealed within a channel along the waistband. At the back, there are two pockets, both with flaps and button fastening. On the inside of the waistband there are buttons for braces.
The condition of this suit is not perfect; it has quite a number of small flaws, but nothing that affects the overall impression. There are some discolourations in places, for example at the back of the neck. The lining also shows considerable discolouration, though of course none of this is visible when the suit is worn. There are also a few other small points worth noting, such as the top button on the fly being mismatched. This, too, is not visible when worn, but is still worth mentioning for a full picture of the suit’s condition. This suit is somewhat on the rarer side – brown Swedish suits are not very common, and on top of that it is bespoke. In our view, it is sometimes worth accepting a few minor imperfections if the garment is unusual and matches exactly what one is looking for. Please study the photographs and form your own view of the condition.
SIZE
In terms of size, it falls between a modern EU 46 (UK/US 36) and EU 48 (UK/US 38). The jacket corresponds more closely to an EU 46 (UK/US 36), while the trousers are nearer to an EU 48 (UK/US 38). Please scroll down for the exact measurements and seam allowances.
