DESCRIPTION

This bespoke three-piece suit is of Swedish origin, tailored at a Stockholm-based tailor shop called Sandberg & Johannesson and dated 1947. It is made from a typically mid-century grey patterned fabric, subtle yet characteristic of the era.

The jacket is single-breasted and fastens with three buttons. It features horizontal welted front pockets, a chest pocket, and a buttonhole on the left lapel. The back is straight and unvented. The jacket is fully lined, with two inner pockets, one on each side.

The waistcoat is also single-breasted, fastening with six buttons, and features four front pockets – two at chest height and two lower down. The back is plain, without a cinch or buckle, which is common for bespoke waistcoats, as they are meant to fit perfectly without adjustment.

The trousers have double pleats and vertical front pockets. On the inside of the waistband, there are buttons for braces. The fly is buttoned, and at the back there are two pockets, one on each side, both with button closures.

Overall, the condition is good, with no structural damage to the fabric. However, there are some discolourations, primarily around the collar edge, underarms, and trouser lining. There is also a black ink stain in the waistcoat lining – likely the result of a leaking fountain pen. Please study the photos carefully to form your own assessment of the condition.

SIZE

The sizing of this suit is a bit complex, as it is bespoke, and the pieces do not follow a strict modern size standard.

• The jacket’s chest measurement corresponds roughly to a modern EU 52 (UK/US 42).

• The waistcoat is slightly smaller, closer to a EU 50 (UK/US 40).

• The trousers are smaller still, approximately a EU 48 (UK/US 38).

However, there is fabric available to let out the trousers, both in the waist and in the length, meaning they could easily be adjusted to better match the other two pieces if needed. Please scroll down for detailed measurements and seam allowances.
