DESCRIPTION
This coat is of American origin. It was produced by Daroff, most likely in the late 1950s, and was originally sold new by a store called Allyn’s Mens Shop in Springfield, Virginia. It is tailored from a dark grey wool cloth with a subtle Glen check pattern.
The coat is single-breasted and fastens with three buttons. It has slightly slanted front pockets and a buttonhole on the left lapel. The sleeve cuffs feature decorative turn-ups. The back is straight and has a vent. Inside, it is traditionally half-lined. It has a vertical jetted inner pocket on the left-hand side. Overall, the interior construction is very well executed.
The cloth is noticeably lighter than what we usually see in Swedish coats from the same period. However, in our view it represents a standard cloth for an American coat of this era. The fact that it is half-lined also contributes to an overall lighter feel.
As for the condition, there is nothing to remark upon – it is in very good condition. Please study the photographs and form your own view of the condition.
SIZE
Inside the inner pocket, there is a label marked “39 LONG”. Judging by the chest measurement, the coat corresponds to a modern EU 48 (UK/US 38). The sleeve length helps explain the “LONG” designation, as the sleeves are slightly longer than standard for this size. Please scroll down for the exact measurements.
