DESCRIPTION
This overcoat is of Swedish origin and was made during the 1950s by the well-known Swedish ready-to-wear manufacturer Algots. Algots was a major player during the 1940s and 1950s but later disappeared as the national textile industry declined. The coat is deadstock, meaning completely unused - the original tag is still attached to the left cuff. It is made from a dark brown fabric with a subtle Prince of Wales check.
The coat is double-breasted and fastens with three buttons arranged in a straight line. The buttons are covered in leather. It has slanted front pockets, and at the back there is a half-belt and a vent. Inside, it is fully lined, partly with quilted lining — a detail that appeared intermittently in Swedish ready-to-wear, but one that is occasionally seen in coats from the late 1950s and early 1960s.
As for condition, it is unused — completely perfect, save for one detail. For some unknown reason, the lining of one of the inner pockets has been removed. A new pocket bag can of course be sewn in easily if desired. Apart from that, it is as new. Please study the photos carefully and form your own opinion of its condition.
SIZE
In terms of size, it is relatively large. The label reads “C 56” (UK/US 46), which corresponds well with the actual fit. Please scroll down for exact measurements.
