DESCRIPTION
This coat is of Swedish origin and was made bespoke in November 1956 by D. Rein. Nordin in Stockholm. It has quite a distinctive look, featuring grey-melange Harris Tweed, a fur collar, and a fur lining. The collar is most likely silver fox, while the lining appears to be made of muskrat.
The coat is double-breasted, fastening with two rows of buttons. It has horizontal front pockets with flaps, and cuffs at the sleeve ends. The back is straight with a single vent. As mentioned, the interior is lined with muskrat fur, arranged in a diamond pattern - a style occasionally seen in furs from this period. There is a relatively large vertical inner pocket on the left side.
In terms of condition, the overall impression is good. There are some minor signs of wear, though only one of real significance: visible wear on the left sleeve cuff. This could certainly be repaired to make it less noticeable; alternatively, if one were to shorten the sleeves slightly (should that be needed), the issue would disappear altogether. There is also a small imperfection in the fur collar, but nothing substantial. Some light wear can be seen around the buttonholes. However, this coat has a rather unusual and striking character, which means that one’s impression is defined more by the overall look than by these minor flaws, which only become apparent upon closer inspection. SIZE
In terms of size, it corresponds to a modern EU 44–46 (UK/US 36), bearing in mind that it was tailored to allow room for a jacket to be worn underneath. As the coat is fur-lined, it is likely to be very warm. If worn only over a lighter garment, it would probably also fit someone who normally wears a EU 48 SHORT (UK/US 38 SHORT).
